Job Description

Algonquin’s Social Media Community Officer plays a critical role as part of the Advancement team. Reporting to the Executive Director, the incumbent takes responsibility for the implementation of the College’s social media plan and supports peers as they engage College stakeholders in the use of a variety of channels and tools. The incumbent collaborates with a wide variety of teams and individuals throughout the College community and drives the adoption of social media best practices and technologies across programs and departments.

An enthusiastic and passionate advocate for social media, the incumbent provides guidance on social media policies, procedures and guidelines aimed to create sustainable growth in stakeholder engagement. The incumbent is actively engaged in social media training and makes recommendations for investment in social media technology.

The incumbent interacts with clients in real time through core channels, acting as a key liaison for the College, participating in online conversations to answer questions, offer solutions, mediate conversations, create content for feeds and spark discussion on various social networking sites.

Required Qualifications  
  • Minimum of a  two (2) year diploma in Marketing, Communications, E-Business or a related field;
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in online marketing with a focus on social media;
  • Experience in customer service, advertising and public relations;
  • Previous experience in coordinating and developing content for core media channels, including daily tweets, posts, discussion/forums;
  • Strong personal record of social media use;
  • Experience with various technologies such as social media Customer Relationship Management (CRM), monitoring and measurement;
  • Well-developed communication and research skills;
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams.
