Your role

The Specialist will be supporting English Services and French Services and will be assigned to working with the technical and editorial teams.

 

Function:

Plans, selects, organizes, and acquires or provides personnel, facilities, and other resources as needed for the production and execution of programs on all platforms (Radio/TV/Web), while aiming to be efficient and cost effective.  General direction is provided but there is latitude for, and an expectation of independent judgment, analysis and decision-making within sets of complex parameters.  Work is subject only to general review and there may be a requirement to coordinate the work of others.

 

Key tasks:

  • Plan, schedule, and post personnel schedules and leave plans ensuring compliance with collective agreements, corporate policy, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Maintain the entire overview of resource use, availability, and requirements for all production, program, and other operational activities within the area of responsibility.
  • Assist with long and short term planning of resources for productions and programs.
  • Provide advice on cost savings and other possible advantages to the clients on decisions involving facilities, resources, schedules, or departmental policies or procedures.
  • Resolve conflicting resource requests.
  • Assist managers and program leadership with appropriate familiarization, training, and skill upgrades of personnel to increase depth of assignability.
  • Analyze employees’ availability, skills and experience, against production or program requirements.
  • Ensure that scheduling and other reporting systems are updated accurately, and in a timely fashion.
  • Compile information and prepare reports, either as part of routine reporting requirements or in response to special requests from within or outside of the unit, department or operation.
  • Approve departmental and/or production related expenses within delegated authority.

 

We are looking for a candidate with the following:

  • Graduate from Community College or the equivalent, preferably in a radio or television production or business stream.
  • Minimum of three years of relevant experience that demonstrates an in depth understanding of  complex scheduling processes within a production or broadcasting environment.
  • Knowledge of CBC collective agreements and corporate policy (an asset).
  • Proven analytical skills and ability to initiate creative and strategic solutions in developing innovative procedures to ensure collaborative and responsive service.
  • Experience and working knowledge of using ScheduALL (an asset).
  • Experience with using the Google suite of office applications (Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Sheets) and Microsoft Office applications (MS Word and Excel).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities at once, while under pressure and reacting and responding to needs of clients, colleagues, employees, etc., in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong leadership skills; able to work without supervision; highly tactful, well organized; a very motivated self-starter.
  • Extremely detail oriented and accurate with updating and creating data records.
  • Possess a ‘service oriented’ outlook.
  • Ability to communicate easily with writing and speaking in both English and French.
  • Familiarity with programming on all platforms (Radio/TV/Web) - (an asset).
