Region of Peel
Brampton, ON

Communication Specialist

Reporting to the Communication Supervisor, this position provides support to our Human Services partners in communicating with various audiences about Regional programs and services, and building trust and confidence with the public. You will be responsible for managing communication activities for designated internal partners in the areas of strategic consultation and advice, integrated communications, issues management and crisis communications.

Who are you? You are a chameleon – you read situations with ease and adjust your style and approach to fit your audience. You are politically astute and know precisely when to push an agenda (and when not to). You are not intimidated to jump into conversations and situations, ask tough questions and politely persevere if you meet resistance. You do not pull tactics out of your holster until you know your target and have a strategy in place. You enjoy peeling the proverbial onion to get at the true problem because you know that shedding a few tears now is better than many more in the future. You know how to put your reader at the centre of your writing – and you actually deliver it. You thrive on stepping into the fires of crises and can stay calm, focused and objective, even when things seem bleak. You are inquisitive, analytical and highly resilient, and you subscribe to the belief that your success is driven by meeting the program’s objectives, not by delivering flowery tactics.

Fit is as important to us as it is to you. You’ll be a great fit if you’re naturally curious, entrepreneurial, and innovative. You can take energy from the uncertainty that comes with big picture thinking and like to solve problems. You won’t if you are primarily energized by getting tactics into the marketplace. Or if what you did yesterday is still good enough for tomorrow, without evaluating whether it succeeded or failed.
