Communications Assistant

We are looking for enthusiastic self-starters to be part of the Media and Public Relations team. Reporting to the Senior Communications Advisor, the Communications Assistant will provide a range of strategic communications services and support with a strong focus on media relations, tenant communications and social media. You will be responsible for the writing, editing and production of media, tenant and client facing materials for print and digital channels. Your work will support the company and front-line staff to provide better customer service to tenants.

What you’ll do

  • Write, edit and produce media, tenant and client facing communications products and materials
  • Analyze and compile media coverage
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of digital communications materials, including websites, social media, intranet, and info-screens.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of print communication tools, including news releases, backgrounders, newsletter articles, pamphlets, brochures, posters/notices etc.
  • Support and monitor the use of brand logo and ensure brand style guidelines and standards are adhered to in all materials
  • Assist, support and on occasion lead the creation and execution of communications plans
  • Make recommendations regarding communications channels, tools and processes
  • Support distribution of notices to tenants (e.g., consultation meetings, unplanned service disruptions, etc.)
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of organizational communication tools
  • Assist in event planning and management as needed
  • Support evaluation and monitoring as laid out in communications plans
  • Work to implement special initiatives and projects as defined and required
  • Assist with desktop publishing projects, web and intranet updating as required

What you’ll need

  • Postsecondary education in corporate communications, public relations, marketing, journalism or a related field
  • 1 year experience in the field of corporate communications, public relations, marketing communications or related fields
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Strong event management skills with a high level of attention to detail
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to multitask
  • Good communications planning and strategic thinking skills
  • Demonstrated experience in internal communications practices
  • Demonstrated experience using social media channels and tools (e.g., Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, Hootsuite) and internet/intranet programs (e.g., CMS such as Drupal, SharePoint)
  • Demonstrated experience using software programs such as Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite
  • Must be able to work in and adapt to a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work as part of a team in a collegial environment
