Information and Communication Technology Technician

Through ongoing monitoring and maintenance, the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Technician ensures the continued operation, stability and integrity of the Board’s software, hardware and related information and communications technology services. The ICT Technician is a key contributor to the Information Technology team, helping to maintain and continuously evolve standardized corporate and educational technology environments, while being accountable for all aspects of ICT support and its contributions to the Information Technology department as a whole.

Reporting to the Manager of Information and Communications Technology, the ICT Technician will be responsible for:

  • Planning, coordinating and executing short-term tasks and long-term projects as they relate to the Board’s ICT: new implementations; existing technology upgrades; ongoing maintenance;
  • Providing technical support to the ICT team, in support of the strategic directions of the Huron-Perth Catholic District School Board;
  • Investigating and resolving user problems in a timely and effective manner;
  • Supporting new technologies related to the ICT requirements of the Board;
  • Tracking and reporting on the inventories of technology;
  • Developing documentation, procedures and processes as it relates to the ongoing operation and support of the Board’s ICT;
  • Ensuring the security of Board data and equipment, including timely and effective incident response;
  • Supporting digital communications, portals, email systems and corporate software applications;
  • Providing technical support to members of the Board of Trustees and employees of the Catholic Education Centre as well as the schools;
  • Working cooperatively and positively with others to facilitate an effective team environment;
  • Other duties/special projects as assigned which may include travel within the Board.

The successful candidate will have a working knowledge or proven experience with the following HPCDSB systems:

  • Student Information System – Maplewood
  • Mobile Device Management system
  • Virtual Learning Environment
  • O365 - including MS Office 2016
  • SharePoint 2016
  • Experience with Active Directory including Group Policy would be a distinct advantage

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Minimum three year post-secondary education in an IT-related field (e.g. Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Management);
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience in a relevant role providing support in a networked computing environment;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of technologies such as SharePoint Server 2016, Mitel phone systems, systems deployment and management, data security including data backups;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and timelines;
  • Excellent teamwork, collaboration and time-management skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to employ strong communication skills in order to understand and respond to concerns and requests from the user community in an effective and timely manner;
  • Commitment to the mission and goals of the Huron-Perth Catholic District School Board.
