Executive Director

Reporting Relationship: to the Board of Directors

Under the direction of the Board of Directors, the Executive Director co-ordinates all administrative and policy activity to ensure that the OKâlaKatiget Society meets its goals and objectives.

In this position the Executive Director performs the following functions:

  • Develops and oversees implementation of short, medium and long term policies for the Society and ensures the Society’s operations conform to the terms and conditions of the organization’s constitution and by-laws.
  • Advises the Board of Directors on policy and administrative matters, prepares and submits quarterly reports on Society activities to the Board of Directors and Heritage Canada
  • Represents the Society to funding and regulatory agencies and programs; to other media groups and to the general public
  • Participates in staff hiring process and supervises administrative and training staff; performs annual performance appraisals; Performs annual training needs assessment in consultation with employees
  • Monitors the Society budgets and funding agreements, approves all invoices for payment and acts as signing officer for the Society
  • Researches, drafts and negotiates contracts with trainers and consultants as required. Ensures contracts are completed to Society specifications
  • Researches possible funding opportunities and oversees proposals and funding applications.
  • Performs related activities for the Board of Directors to ensure the continued viability of the Society
  • Negotiates network time-slots for radio and television distribution with external organizations
  • Publicizes activities of the Society through the preparation of promotional literature, press releases, media interviews, etc.
  • Researches, drafts and negotiates contracts with trainers and consultants as required and ensures contracts are completed as to Society specifications.

The successful applicant should have:

  • A degree in Journalism or related education and work experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • High degree of self-motivation and interest in current Labrador issues
  • Ability to speak and understand Inuktitut a major asset

Salary range starting at $55,000.00 annually
Commensurate with experience.
