Technical Director/Production Manager

Production: The Winter’s Tale

Fee: $3000

Rehearsals Begin: July 15th
Opening Night: August 15th
Closing Night: Sept 2nd

The TECHNICAL DIRECTOR/PRODUCTION MANAGER, in consultation with RUFF, and more specifically, with the PRODUCER, will:


  • Call and run production meetings
  • Report to and work with the Producer
  • Facilitate necessary production related communication between departments, keeping the Ruff team up to date on all developments as needed
  • Work collaboratively with stage manager and designers
  • Provide the Producer with details of all purchases, including but not limited to: Receipts, inventory, and delivery date
  • Design and circulate production schedule (with input from Producer)


  • Supervise the production Design team
  • Identify all the necessary technical elements for the production are in place. These include but are not limited to: required technical equipment; order aforementioned equipment; prepare technical equipment for handling by actors (this includes but is not limited to: labeling equipment, coiling cable, preparation of lighting stands, devising storage plan set & equipment, etc)
  • Order rehearsal and performance storage pod OR storage van; oversee layout and function of pod to include production workshop during rehearsals and production, as well as act as Front of House storage and dressing rooms during performances;
  • Transport or arrange transport of materials from and to Ruff’s storage pre and post production
  • Rent accessible port-a-potty
  • Secure, store, care for musical instruments, if needed
  • Hire and oversee stagehands and crew for tech as needed
  • Hire labour for designers as needed
  • Assist Designer with transportation of set, costumes, props, lighting
  • Along with the Stage Manager, organize set, costume, prop repairs during the run
  • Manage Ruff’s prescribed budget and make purchases on behalf of RUFF within the budget
  • Create clear and legible set-up and strike paper work for the Actors and the Stage Manager, who are responsible for setting and striking the lighting equipment within a 60-minute time frame; train the actors in set-up and strike procedure;
  • Oversee the final strike and returns of all equipment;
  • Compile all final production information and paperwork from various departments
