ARTISTIC DIRECTOR - THEATRE NORTHWEST (TNW)
TNW is seeking to fill the position of artistic director. This is a challenging, full-time, position and requires the successful candidate to make Prince George their home. The start date in Prince George will ideally be no later than January 1, 2020 but is flexible before then. Upon selection, a mutually convenient plan will be created to ensure collaboration with the executive director to facilitate a smooth transition. The successful candidate will continue and contribute to the legacy of this exceptional company.
Theatre NorthWest is a regional theatre dedicated to bringing our audience a wide range of plays drawn from the contemporary Canadian and International repertoire. Actors and other theatre professionals are contracted for each production from across Canada to work with our resident staff in order to bring together a four-play season which runs from September to May. Theatre NorthWest is the largest arts organization in the northern two-thirds of British Columbia.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
Reporting to TNW's Board of Directors, TNW's Artistic Director has a broad range of responsibilities, some of which are shared with TNW's Executive Director. The Artistic
Director has chief responsibility for the following:
. selecting and scheduling of TNW's season of programming;
. making artistic decisions;
. reviewing and considering incoming scripts for future action;
. communicating the artistic vision of TNW;
. occasional commissioning and dramaturgy of new works;
. selecting artistic personnel; and
. meeting and maintaining established artistic standards of TNW.
The Artistic Director will support the Executive Director in the following:
. reporting to the Board;
. preparing annual budgets for approval of the Board;
. implementing approved budgets;
. communicating with funding bodies;
. creating an open, collaborative and productive environment for staff, artists and volunteers;
. management of various facilities operated by TNW;
. leading the TNW artistic team;
. representing TNW in and interacting with the community of Prince George and region generally, and the theatre community of the region in particular; and
. participating in and advising national, provincial and regional committees and organizations.
QUALIFICATIONS OF CANDIDATES
Preference will be given to Candidates who have experience producing and directing professional theatre, managing a professional theatre company and planning theatre seasons. They will have the proven ability to liaise with public and private sector organizations to further the aims of the theatre, as well as solid leadership skills, excellent communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with the media. Experience in theatre facilities management would be an asset.
