Your role
We are looking for a bright, energetic, and creative Associate Producer-Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will produce content for our radio shows, and will be the technical operator of our Calgary-based radio morning show. Very strong technical, sound editing and sound production skills are required.The successful candidate will be skilled at creating content for multiple platforms, and demonstrate exceptional skills in verbal and written communication, as well as story generation. The ideal Associate Producer-Technician is web savvy, with a proven track record in radio. Additionally, we are looking for people who are skilled in gathering video/audio as well as producing local stories on a wide range of news and current affairs topics.
 
You will play an integral role in the Local Services strategy with a focus on three priorities:
 
Content: In this role, you will ensure that all CBC journalistic standards are met and that our stories are fair, balanced, accurate, thoughtful, immediate and resonate with the communities we serve. You will further our original storytelling and ensure we are talking about what matters most to people throughout the province. You’re innovative and will try new things, new workflows and new story treatments. You inspire others to do the same.
You bring great story ideas, researching skills and sound technical knowledge to the morning show team.
 
Community: As the industry shifts, local news and community storytelling is more important than ever. You will understand the diverse and changing population in Calgary and the importance of reflecting all our communities in our content.
 
Culture: You live and promote the values of diversity and an inclusive and respectful workplace.
 
We are looking for a candidate with the following:
  • University degree or equivalent and 3 years of practical and relevant experience.
  • Established presence on social media and knowledge of SM as a news gathering and audience engagement tool; web & tech savvy.
  • Recognized excellence in chasing news, providing quick turnaround when writing scripts and editing. Strong contributor of ideas, stories and treatments for radio and digital environments.
  • Proven track record of ensuring a diversity of voices is reflected in storytelling. Contributes to the diversity of perspectives on the team.
  • Knowledge of diversity in Calgary.
  • High level of organization and productivity.
  • Strong & enthusiastic team player with good communication skills. Initiative taker, with ability to be productive in individual and team settings.
  • Strong background in radio broadcasting, and have demonstrated skills operating soundboards, live-mixing radio programs, and managing studio links. Technical troubleshooting skills an asset.
  • Able to work flexible hours, particularly early mornings.
  • Knowledge of Dalet and/or non-linear editors, and iNews - an asset.
  • Passionate about exploring the Calgary region, talent, stories, issues and ideas. Innovative with programming and ideas.
  • Curious, incisive and critical thinker.
