Production Accountant

Scott Brothers Entertainment, a multifaceted company that strives to develop cutting-edge entertainment by combining years of experience in film, television and digital media is looking to fill a Production Accountant position to join their rapidly growing Accounting department in their Toronto location.

The Production Accountant will support a wide variety of production content and oversee the accounting on multiple in-house productions. The chosen candidate will work closely with the line producers and production managers and report to the Director of Finance. He/she will be responsible for all production accounting and associated cost reporting, managing production payroll, accounts payable, statutory remittances and filings, as well as various accounting duties within the department


Responsibilities:

  • Monitor production budgets, analyze costs and expenditures, analyze cost reports, and forecast Estimated Final Costs
  • Work with productions to gather and maintain appropriate union / non-union start paperwork, deal memos, contracts and timesheets for processing
  • Process bi-weekly non-union production payroll
  • Manage Accounts Payable process for their productions
  • Process bill-backs of corporate costs
  • Reconcile and analyze balance sheet accounts
  • Assist with financial month end close and daily accounting activity on tight deadlines
  • Review/audit expense reports ensuring compliance with the company policy. Escalate requests and issues to the appropriate party in a timely basis
  • Deliver breakdown of Costs for CRTC and OMDC
  • Compile information for production company audits
  • Prepare HST returns and ensure WSIB and EHT payments are remitted


Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of combined production and accounting experience
  • Experience in film or TV production and knowledge of tax, union, guild and relevant government regulations.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the production process and experience with budgets and bi-weekly cost reports
  • Outstanding problem-solving skills and enjoys working in a challenging, fast-paced environment
  • The ability to work independently with a high degree of accuracy and manage time effectively; manage work under pressure and manage tight deadlines
  • Analyzes and interprets new information and situations effectively
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks and Excel is required
  • Knowledge and experience with EP Canada and Cast & Crew software an asset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as analytical skills
  • Strong organizational skills and able to handle multiple requests in order of priority
  • Detailed oriented, organized, and hands on – willing to roll up your sleeves
  • Positive, enthusiastic with a can-do attitude and a team player approach
