Digital Managing Editor – Full Time

CHEK is expanding its already significant and growing digital presence. We are looking for a talented, innovative, digital news supervisor to lead a dynamic team to help engage and grow our audience on all our digital platforms.  An individual who can write, produce and generate content for all our digital and social media platforms.

What we are looking for a candidate with the following:

• Experience leading a digital news team in large or equivalent sized market
• Strong understanding of Vancouver Island and surrounding region
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Enjoys working in a team environment with the strength and ability to lead
• Sound news judgment and ability to work under the pressures of deadlines
• Ability to  edit, vet, fact-check stories and copy – including video 
• Ability to select relevant stories, reflecting the values and diversity of our market
• Ability to generate, write and chase stories

• Work with news team to ensure content is customized for maximize value on each platform
• Develop and implement strategies to grow distribution on current and emerging social media
• Advance knowledge of digital/industry trends
• Experience coaching and developing new digital talent
• Degree in journalism or equivalent with minimum 5 years of recent, related experience
• This role is a Group 3 position as per the Collective Agreement

CHEK is the only independent, employee-owned television station in Canada. Full-time employees of CHEK are expected to participate in the employee share ownership program after one year of employment.
