Position: Senior News Producer, Broadcast and Online Execution
Location: Edmonton, Alberta
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience
Hours of work: 40 hours per week. Overtime and shift work as required
Responsibilities:
As a key member of the leadership team in the CTV Edmonton Newsroom, this experienced journalist will lead content-execution strategies for all platforms. Guiding the quality, balance, and style of both broadcast and digital stories, this role supports the successful execution of all newsroom broadcasts and content to the highest standards.
- Work with Managing Editor, News Producers, and content-creators to execute high-quality broadcasts and digital coverage that drives audience engagement
- Evaluate and approve scripts and video for broadcast and digital, using sound ethical and journalistic judgement
- Review broadcast rundowns and scripts for flow, relevance, context, and maximized viewer engagement
- Generate strong story ideas that are relevant to the local audience
- Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Post secondary education in Broadcasting, or Journalism
- At least two years’ experience in a newsroom leadership position
- Ability to evaluate and provide feedback on the work of others
- Conflict-resolution abilities, sound news judgment, experience vetting stories for fairness, ethics, and legalities
- Exceptional broadcast writing skills
- Knowledge of CP style for digital writing
- Competitive drive to win and strong sense of urgency
- Knowledge of television production procedures, terminology and equipment capabilities
- Excellent organizational, time management, communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to react quickly and productively in a changing environment requiring immediate decision-making
- Ability to adhere to tight deadlines and work with minimal supervision
- Ability to foster a positive attitude and collaborative environment
