Position: Coordinator, Licensing & Business Affairs, Contract 12 months

Location: Toronto, On

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week. Overtime as required

 

Responsibilities:

We are looking for an experienced Media Licensing & Business Affairs Coordinator to join our high-volume and dynamic Bell Media Studios Business Affairs team. Bell Media Studios develops and creates award-winning live and taped television and digital content.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, including our creative, Business & Legal Affairs and production teams, as well as music publishers, record labels and composers (and their managers and/or attorneys), regarding music clearances and license fees
  • Negotiating, drafting, reviewing, tracking and administering master use, synchronization and performance licenses, as needed
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships throughout the music industry
  • Reviewing and redlining standard production and rights agreements including production releases, talent agreements, licenses, waivers and deal memos
  • Providing guidance and support to all Bell Media in-house production units on clearance and rights questions
  • Tracking and coordinating of contracts and license payments
  • Support the Manager of Business Affairs and Sr. Business Affairs Lead  on various music and production related clearances (including but not limited to communication with various internal units, creation of clearance summary charts, tracking charts, etc.)
  • Other duties as needed

 

Qualifications:

  • 2-5 years of direct music clearance experience in the music department at a major production company, film/television studio, television network, music publisher, record label, or law firm. Experience in a production company, film/television studio or television network is highly preferred
  • Strong understanding of the music industry and music rights clearances
  • Understanding of master use, synchronization and performance licenses with the ability to meaningfully discuss license issues with internal and external stakeholders. Direct experience in reviewing and negotiating such licenses is highly preferred
  • Comfortable reading, understanding and modifying standard production documents such as releases, talent agreements, licenses, waivers and deal memos
  • Experience with production clearances is an asset
  • Proficient in MS Office: (Word, Excel)
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information
  • Must be able to prioritize and work effectively with minimal supervision under pressure of constant deadlines
  • Stellar professional communication skills
  • Problem solver and self-starter

 

Bilingualism is an asset (English and French); adequate knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec.
