Head of Newsroom Development

ROLE DESCRIPTION
 
As a member of Masthead, the Head of Newsroom Development is responsible for advancing people-focused initiatives to ensure The Globe’s editorial department is able to attract, develop and retain top talent that is representative of Canada.  Key areas of responsibility include:
  • Diversity, Equity & Inclusion - implement programs that drive and support DE&I across the newsroom including managing the Breaking the Habit program.
  • Staff Training and Development - ensure newsroom training and development initiatives support editorial strategic plans and goals.
  • Internal Communications - facilitate and implement ongoing communication activities within editorial. 
  • Recruitment - work closely with HR and hiring managers to identify ways to expand the talent pipeline, ensure the recruitment and selection process is consistent, fair and equitable, and ensure The Globe is able to attract candidates from across the full talent pool.
  • Performance Management - work with managers and HR to ensure an effective performance management process. 
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • University degree or equivalent experience.
  • Journalism experience, including experience working in a leadership capacity within Editorial. 
  • Experience with DE&I initiatives, including sourcing and hiring diverse talent.
  • Knowledge of various approaches to training and development.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, collaborate and influence.
  • Project management skills to manage both special projects and ongoing assignments and move them forward.
  • Organizational skills to organize and promote internal initiatives, activities and events.
  • Analytical and decision-making skills
