Your role

Please note this is a full-time temporary role until March 2022, with the possibility of being extended to October 2022. The position is located in Victoria, B.C.

 

The provincial affairs reporter performs reporting and editorial assignments for web, radio, television and social media that typically involve the gathering, writing and presentation of information related to provincial affairs – specifically, but not exclusively, the legislature, the government / opposition parties and politicians (both in office and out), as well as the public service and Crown corporations.

 

The successful candidate will demonstrate an understanding and awareness of issues and events particular to British Columbia generally, and will have strong ties to, and a deep understanding of, underrepresented communities and equity-deserving groups in British Columbia

You will ensure that all CBC journalistic standards are met and that our stories are fair, balanced, accurate, thoughtful, immediate and resonate with the communities we serve.

 

Work can involve coordination of the activities of others, and close cooperation with multiple teams and platforms is essential.

 

Your profile:

  • University degree (or the equivalent) in journalism, communications, political science or a related field.
  • At least five years’ related experience in a multi-platform news environment.
  • Proven understanding of the stories of underrepresented communities and how to tell them.
  • Ensuring inclusive language and framing in stories that accurately represent the diverse experiences of British Columbians.
  • Excellent knowledge of the province of British Columbia.
  • Contact network including the various provincial stakeholders.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license as well as a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canada's insurance company.
  • Ability to travel across BC.
