About the Role:

Corus Entertainment has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Manager, News Technology at our Winnipeg, MB location. Reporting to the National Director, Broadcast Infrastructure and Support, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of News Technology Technicians on a daily basis at our Global Television sites located in Winnipeg, Regina, Montreal and Halifax. In addition, you will be responsible for the delivery of on-going Tier 1 support to maintain the health of on-air and production equipment at each of the four sites. This position is ideally suited to an individual who can lead a diverse team of technicians and has an understanding of news production workflows.

The following highlights the primary functions, but does not outline all of the duties and responsibilities which may be assigned to this position.



  • Provide direction and leadership to a team of 11 News Technology technicians located in Winnipeg MB, Regina SK, Montreal QC, and Halifax NS.
  • Work closely with the National Director, Broadcast Infrastructure and Support to meet business and technology objectives.
  • Work closely with News Operations teams, Architecture teams, IT teams, Creative teams, Facilities teams and station business leaders to ensure business objectives and technical initiatives are met.
  • Provide support and structure to ensure effective technical support is delivered in a timely manner.
  • Provide support for the design and implementation of systems relating to news gathering, news production, commercial production, technology infrastructure, building infrastructure and over-the-air transmission systems.
  • Manage resources to ensure onsite technical support is available during all hours of News Production.
  • Manage resources to provide technical support to transmitters related to locations in your areas of responsibility.
  • Manage resources to monitor and maintain the health of components associated with the technical and building infrastructure related to locations in your area of responsibilities.
  • Manage capital and operating budgets.
  • Manage and maintain business, technical and operational best practices and standards.
  • Manage direct reports timesheet and vacation schedules.
  • Work directly with equipment manufacturers and vendors.
  • Provide support to provide building facilities maintenance.


Your daily activities will include:

  • Collaborating with News Directors to help execute departmental projects, specials and remote events.
  • Facilitating day-to-day support to locations in your areas of responsibility.
  • Creating a collaborative, diverse and inclusive environment for your team.
  • Managing deliverables for projects.
  • Creating team leadership and engagement strategies.
  • Problem solving to facilitate resolutions of technical and project issues.
  • Participating in station leader meetings and working closely with leaders to ensure each stations objectives are met.
  • Staying current with the various technologies associated with broadcast and streaming workflows.


If you have the following…we want to hear from you!

  • Recognized certificate in Broadcast Technology, Electronics, Computer Science, Telecommunications or equivalent.
  • 10 – 15 years of experience in a technology-based field.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience leading technical teams.
  • Experience leading remote teams.
  • Well versed in the technology associated with automation systems and the workflow associated with video and streaming platforms.
  • An understanding of Production, Control Room and Post Production equipment and environments.
  • A deep understanding of computers and networking as related to broadcast systems.
  • Experience working on equipment associated with over-the-air transmitters, and remote production technologies.
  • A strong technical acumen and a passion to learn.
