VP Finance & Operations

Based in Toronto, we are currently looking for an experienced VP Finance & Operations, reporting directly to the co-owners and co-CEOs. Acting as a true business partner, the VP Finance & Operations oversees the general business elements of the company including the progress and financial health of projects as they move through development, production and distribution. The role oversees all financial matters and works closely with the owners as a strategic advisor on the financial and administrative elements of achieving the company goals including a significant growth of market scope and revenue.




  • Accountable for all aspects of financial performance and controls.
  • Participates in developing new business/revenue streams, and assists in identifying new funding opportunities, the drafting of prospective forecasts and budgets and analyzing opportunities.
  • Oversees and participates in the financial reporting activities of the organization and all productions.
  • Oversees and participates in the preparation of corporate and divisional operating budgets.
  • Monitors banking activities and acts as primary point of contact in maintaining healthy relationships with the bankers. Manages cash-flows across companies (including shareholder SPPs)
  • Provides management with timely information on the organization's cash position along with the establishment of near- and longer-term cash flow forecasting.
  • Prepares financing plans and sources financing for projects in development and production
  • With Supervising Producer, prepares production budgets and schedules for upcoming projects
  • Manages tax credit certification and filings
  • Prepares production cash-flow, setup cost report & cost projections


Operational / General

  • Coordinates the general operational activities of the firm including strategic planning processes, senior management team meetings, follow up and goal progress reporting and other administrative controls as directed by the owners.
  • Proactively establishes relationships with other team members and professionally communicate with other departments.
  • Demonstrates leadership in work ethic and work-life balance, ensuring entrepreneurial values of hard work, timeliness and reliability are not lost by existing employees and are bred into new staff.
  • Plays an active role in the firm’s communities through investment of personal time and through encouragement of other members of the organization to do the same.
  • Spearhead bids for animation service projects, including preparation of quotes
  • Consult with IT on selection of hardware and software and assist with implementation for productions
  • Oversight of Studio operations including managing Studio capacity and resources
  • Manages HR, Office administration and Corporate/Production Accounting


Business Affairs

  • Responsible for directing the contractual negotiations process and completing licensing and funding transactions from end to end.
  • Manages (oversees and guides) projects from funding through to final production, providing confidence to the organization that timelines and milestones are on target.



  • University Degree, preferably in Business or Finance coupled with an accounting designation (CPA/ CMA/CGA)
  • 5+ years of financial leadership experience ideally gained in the television, broadcasting, production or distribution industry with growth-oriented companies.
  • Experience in an entrepreneurial environment and the demands of privately owned businesses is an asset.
  • High level knowledge of the business affairs function in an entertainment related industry is ideal
