Theatre Passe Muraille is known for developing innovative and daring Canadian theatre, but we exist to support our communities. From encouraging independent and emerging artists, and multicultural work, to inspiring our staff and artists to work collaboratively, Theatre Passe Muraille works to ensure all voices are represented on our stage.
Typically, Theatre Passe Muraille produces and/or presents 6-8 shows a year and hosts rental companies and festivals throughout the year. Theatre Passe Muraille operates 3 performance spaces – a Mainspace Theatre (185 seats), Backspace Theatre (55 seats), and a Cabaret/Bar space (capacity of 100).
Job Description
The Marketing & Communications Manager is an important part of TPM’s collaborative organization. They oversee and manage all internal and external communications of the organization, ensuring its message is consistent, engaging and accessible, including the planning and implementation of social media strategies.
Some specific responsibilities include:
COMMUNICATIONS MANAGEMENT
- Developing communications and marketing strategies that support TPM’s vision and image recognition in collaboration with the Artistic Producer
- Managing campaigns including working with the artists and producing companies, writing and/or reviewing all outgoing copy, and the hiring of necessary personnel (photographers etc.)
- Collaborate with TPM’s Community Engagement Coordinator and any relevant community consultants in the creation of the Marketing and Outreach plan
EMAIL MARKETING
- Managing TPM’s Email list and mailing templates including designing and sending biweekly E-newsletters, as well as additional special announcements
PUBLICITY
- Collaborate with TPM’s PR Company and be the point of contact for creating press releases, and managing media relations (including arranging interviews and co-ordinating tickets)
WEBSITE
- Ensuring that webpages are up to date and accessible, including creating landing pages for all TPM programs, shows, and announcements as well as managing the TPM blog
SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGEMENT
- Managing and monitoring TPM’s social media accounts on a timely basis in collaboration with the Artistic Producer
- Developing and publishing timelines, original content, campaigns, including all accessible content according to schedules and budgets set out.
The ideal candidate would have the following:
- Experience or training in developing marketing and communication plans and materials
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail
- Advanced skill level with Microsoft Office
- Ability to work occasional weeknights and weekends
- Demonstrated initiative and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
- Enjoys working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment
Additional experience or knowledge of the following would be considered an asset:
- Experience in social media marketing and web analytics
- Understanding of new media tools which could include: HTML, Content Management Systems (WordPress), database management, email marketing, optimizing photo and video for web
- Knowledge of any graphic design (PhotoShop, InDesign) and video editing software (Final Cut)
- Experience working in a non-profit environment and knowledge of the Toronto Theatre and Arts scene
- Experience working with different cultural communities and knowledge of accessibility
